Thanks to generous donors and sponsors, The Mike Weir Miracle Golf Drive for Kids raised approximately $314,000 in cash and in-kind donations. The IWK also received a $50,000 donation from the Mike Weir Foundation.
"Mike Weir is genuine in his generosity and interest in making a difference. Having Mike lend his time and talent to support the IWK was an honour for us," said Robbie Shaw, President and CEO of the IWK Foundation. "All proceeds will have a direct impact on patient care by supporting the areas of greatest need at the IWK. We owe a huge thank you to Mike, his family and his Foundation for helping to improve the lives of Maritime families."
Much of the event's success was due to the generous donors who purchased golfing packages at Glen Arbour and New Ashburn golf courses, attended the Miracle Celebration dinner and purchased auction items throughout the two days, including the chance to play a round of golf with Mike.
Sponsored by BMO, RBC, Scotiabank, TD Financial Group and CTV, The Mike Weir Miracle Golf Drive for Kids was a thrill for several IWK patients, who received IWK Hero medals from Mike and his wife, Bricia.
"It was the coolest thing getting to meet Mike Weir," said six-year-old Finn Kimball. "He signed my hat and I got my picture taken with him. I even showed him my golf swing and he said it was pretty good."
"Children's Miracle Network is proud to bring The Mike Weir Miracle Golf Drive for Kids to the Maritimes," said John Hartman, Chief International Officer, Children's Miracle Network, "Every child deserves the hope and healing of children's hospitals, and we thank everyone for participating in this very special event for the IWK."
In 2010, The Mike Weir Miracle Golf Drive for Kids heads to Winnipeg and will benefit the Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba.
